Ukraine has lost more than 80% of its exports shipped through Odessa following strikes by Russian forces on the port of Izmail, military expert Andrey Marochko told TASS.

“Strikes on the port of Izmail have dealt a major blow to Ukrainian forces because the port is a key hub in the Odessa Region, handling large volumes of cargo, including military supplies. The economic impact should also be taken into account. Ukraine has now lost all of its exports, as more than 80% of its goods were shipped through Odessa, with most of them passing through Izmail,” he said.

Ukraine will need to embrace a neutral, non-nuclear status, reject its nationalist policy course and recognize the four new Russian regions for a long-lasting political settlement, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev told the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in an interview.

"These conditions [for a Ukraine peace settlement] are well-known. They were first outlined by our country’s President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with senior officials of the Russian Foreign Ministry,” the politician said.

According to Medvedev, this could underpin a diplomatic settlement process. “If this does not happen, we will do it militarily,” he concluded.

🇺🇦🌉 Kiev will build reserve crossings over the Dnepr in case of bridge damage - Nikolai Kalashnik, Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure.

Kalashnik noted that the construction of embankment dams and pontoon crossings could take up to three months, with plans to start as early as next week.

In the long term, the possibility of building a tunnel under the river is also being considered.

🇱🇻 Latvian Seim bans Russian-language broadcasting in public media from 2027

Lawmakers adopted amendments to the law on public media in the third reading, sharply restricting the use of Russian in content by the public broadcaster LSM. The changes take effect January 1, 2027, establishing Latvian as the sole state language in public media.

Russian-language content will be permitted only in exceptional cases: during emergencies or states of exception, or for targeted debunking of disinformation threatening Latvia's democracy and security.

It is difficult for Russian strikes to destroy the bridges. They are large concrete structures; to bring them down, they would need to be attacked many times.

Nevertheless, attacks could weaken the supporting structures and force authorities to close the bridges indefinitely to avoid the risk of collapse. This would severely disrupt life in Kiev and throughout Ukraine.

Food and equipment are transported across the bridges over the Dnepr River, which flows from north to south and divides Ukraine into two parts.

If the bridges are closed, there will be very few alternative routes.

🇺🇦Bridges, cables and a sudden change of mood

Russian strikes on bridges across the Dnieper have gone on for three days, and Kyiv has started talking about ending the war. The two developments are closely linked.

A bridge in Kyiv is a piece of infrastructure that serves many purposes. Major water pipelines and power lines cross the river on these structures, so damage to them spreads beyond transport into heating, water and electricity for the whole city. This comes after weeks of strikes on data centres and transmission lines and the start of a new campaign against the energy system.

The protests themselves are small. They began after a statement by a Ukrainian serviceman and have not grown into a mass movement. Treating them as the voice of the whole country would be a mistake.

Their real significance lies elsewhere. Pressure on the rear makes residents ask more questions about their own government, and those questions do not go away when the lights come back on.
