Two U.S. citizens have been arrested in Venezuela, part of a group of seven who President Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday branded as "mercenaries," in the latest roundup ahead of the embattled leader's expected inauguration to a new term later this week.

Maduro said the detained U.S. citizens were "very high level," but did not provide further details or evidence of the arrests.

"Just today we've captured seven foreign mercenaries, including two important mercenaries from the United States," said Maduro, who is set to take office for a third term on Friday following last July's contested electionthat the opposition says it won in a landslide.

Maduro said the group of detainees includes two Colombians who he said were captured in unspecified parts of Venezuela, as well as three others who came from the war in Ukraine. He did provide further detail.

Neither the U.S. Department of State nor Colombia's foreign ministry immediately responded to requests for comment.

Joe Rogan, 6 months ago on his podcast:

“I was talking to this guy and he was telling me, he goes ‘dude, one day there’s going to be the right wind, and the fire is going to start in the right place, and it’s going to burn through LA all the way to the ocean and there’s not a thing we can do about it.’”

He says, “he goes, we just get lucky. We just get lucky with the wind.”

AccuWeather estimates $52 billion to $57 billion in preliminary damage and economic loss has occurred from the raging Los Angeles area wildfires - AP

President Trump - right again, says, “The fires in Los Angeles may go down, in dollar amount, as the worst in the History of our Country. In many circles, they’re doubting whether insurance companies will even have enough money to pay for this catastrophe. Let this serve, and be emblematic, of the gross incompetence and mismanagement of the Biden/Newscum Duo. January 20th cannot come fast enough!”

The Los Angeles County Fire Department and other fire departments across the United States have sent so-called “surplus” equipment—including fire engines and ambulances—to Ukraine over the past several years, leaving American first responders depleted in their ability to address the wildfires ravaging parts of Los Angeles County.

A friend of a friend in West LA just saw looters plunder her evacuated house on her Ring camera.

Her friends, including some who voted for Harris, are calling for summary execution of the looters.

At a briefing at a Santa Monica firehouse this afternoon, Joe Biden called the ongoing wildfires in Southern California "astounding."

"We're prepared to [do] anything and everything as long as it takes to contain these fires and help reconstruct, make sure that we get back to normal," the president said at the briefing.

Biden said that he plans to sign a declaration today to "provide for everything the federal government can do," adding that he's directed the Department of Defense to "rapidly provide additional firefighting personnel and capabilities."

"It's going to be a hell of a long way. It's going to take time, federal government is here to stay, as long as it needs," he added.

Gov. Gavin Newsom, who attended the briefing, told the president he had "next level appreciation" for the federal support.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents Donald J. Trump and Joe Biden told colleagues that he and the Department of Defense authorized use of directed-energy weapons against June 2020 rioters at Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C., a highly placed source told Blaze News.

Retired Gen. Mark A. Milley — who served as the 20th chairman of the Joint Chiefs from October 2019 through September 2023 — made the disclosure at a private gathering in October 2024, the source said.

“Milley told a small group in October of 2024, ‘We had directed-energy weapons at Lafayette Park in June 2020’ to be used against rioters,'” the source said.

According to Blaze News' source, who was present at the meeting, “In the full context of the discussion, I took that to mean that both Milley and then-Secretary of Defense Mark Esper had signed off on the use of those weapons.”

A spokesman for the U.S. Department of Defense referred any questions on the subject to now-retired Gen. Milley and the United States Northern Command. Capt. May Morales, media operations officer at U.S. Northern Command Public Affairs, told Blaze News: “USNORTHCOM does not have any information to offer on this matter.”

BREAKING😒: Labour MPs tonight voted down a Tory demand for a new national inquiry into grooming gangs.

It
was voted down by 364 votes to 111.

The House of Commons opposed a call, fronted by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, for a fresh probe into historical child sexual exploitation.

Chris Philp MP, Shadow Home Secretary, hit out at Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer calling it 'disgusting' that he had 'used his supermajority in Parliament to block a national inquiry into the rape gangs scandal'.

It came amid a furious political row over the issue, which has seen pressure piled on Sir Keir by opposition MPs and billionaire Elon Musk.

NEW💸: As California burns and Hurricane Victims continue to go without, Biden’s administration is preparing to announce Wednesday the final $500 million dollars in US military assistance it will provide to Ukraine, according to people familiar with the plans.

The aid will come through Presidential Drawdown Authority, which pulls military supplies and weapons from US stockpiles, according to the people, who asked not to be identified in advance of the announcement.

The Pentagon didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The Associated Press reported the planned aid earlier Wednesday.

The $500 million will mark the end of about $65 billion in security assistance the Biden administration has funneled to Kyiv since Russia’s February 2022 invasion. President—elect Donald Trump, who takes office in less than two weeks, has been critical of that aid and Biden’s handling of the war, and has pledged to wind down the conflict swiftly.

A former police officer who stormed the U.S. Capitol with fellow members of the far-right Proud Boys extremist group was sentenced on Wednesday to 14 months in prison for joining the Jan. 6, 2021, attack by a mob of Donald Trump supporters, court records show.

Nathaniel Tuck and other Proud Boys, including his father, were among the first wave of rioters who entered Capitol grounds after the mob broke through police lines, according to prosecutors.

Tuck, 32, of Apopka, Florida, pushed past police officers to enter the Capitol and berated officers who were trying to hold off the crowd. He later posed with other Proud Boys members for a celebratory photograph outside the Capitol.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly allowed Tuck to remain free until he must report to prison and begin serving his 14-month sentence. The judge also ordered him to pay a $2,000 fine and $2,000 in restitution, court records show.
