🇺🇸 U.S. Marshals offers $25,000 reward for wanted former Madison County councilman accused of child molestation

INDIANAPOLIS — The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $25,000 reward as they continue to look for a former Madison County councilman accused of 18 counts of child molestation.

This comes as the U.S. Marshals and Indiana State Police continue to search for 56-year-old Steven Sumner. Sumner, a former preacher of a local church, resigned from his seat on the Madison County Council in May 2021 after charges were filed against him in December 2020.

The U.S. Marshals Service states that Sumner is considered a “flight risk, suicidal and should be considered armed and dangerous.” They also state that Sumner reportedly has access to a “support network which could provide him money, transportation, fake identification and ways to support him.”

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A registered sex offender has been arrested in the 2021 case of a Buffalo woman whose body was found off a trail in Chautauqua County, police said Wednesday.
According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, Richard Fox, 61, is accused of killing Mull in June 2021 at a location in the City of Buffalo. Fox is a Level 3 registered sex offender.

▫️NY man sentenced to 8 years for child sexual abuse
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - A northern New York man will serve eight years in prison in connection with a child sexual abuse case.
Clinton County authorities say Dustin Hooper, 36, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty back in November to sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl.
“This young girl showed tremendous courage by coming forward to end the abuse. Hopefully this will bring her and her family some closure,” Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said in a statement.

▫️‘One of the most heinous sex crimes’: Woman who trafficked minor sentenced to life without parole
The Fresno woman who was convicted of trafficking and physically and sexually assaulting a minor was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
At the sentencing on Tuesday, Javonna Leeshay Lewis, 26, was represented by defense attorney Gregory Mitts. Mitts requested a 25-year-to-life sentence for Lewis on the basis that she was younger than 26, which is a factor of mitigation.
Mitts also said Lewis was dissatisfied with his representation of her and may want to ask for new defense counsel for possible further proceedings. Judge Judith K. Dulcich also cited Lewis’ behavior while in custody during her trial, saying she showed a “lack of taking responsibility.”
Dulcich said "it was amazing" that the teenage victim didn’t suffer more permanent injuries from what Lewis had done to her. The judge called the case “one of the most heinous sex crimes” the Kern County Superior Court has seen, calling Lewis’ actions egregious.
Lewis was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. She has 1,672 total days of credit served.

Natalee Cramer was one of 20,000 fans who cheered on the Dallas Mavericks basketball team during a game. At halftime, the 15-year-old told her dad she needed to use the bathroom. That’s when she says two strange men approached her offering her marijuana. She admits she walked off with them but says once they reached their car, they snatched her. Cramer says she was kidnapped and forced into a sex trafficking ring. Oklahoma police rescued her 10 days after her capture. Cramer and her family have started a foundation called Aisling for Life to help victims of sex trafficking.

▫️Fifth person arrested in Washington County child predator sting
PORTLAND, Ore. — A fifth man was arrested as part of a child predator sting in Washington County that initially caught four men on child luring charges back in April.
Last Friday, Joseph Lee Lyons, 33, was arrested in Portland and lodged at the Washington County Jail. In November, a grand jury indicted Lyons on six counts of luring a minor and four counts of second-degree online sexual corruption of a child.
The four other men arrested in April were as identified as 30-year-old Matthew Goldman of Tigard, 27-year-old Jesus Rodriguez-Garcia of Forest Grove, 25-year-old Gerardo Serrano-Garcia of Hillsboro, and 54-year-old Ruben Olvera-Gaona of Forest Grove.

▫️Maryland Man Accused of Paying a Minor for Sex and Sending Sexual Messages to Children in York County
Last month, Brady Knatz, 26, from Hampstead, Maryland, was arrested and charged with multiple crimes stemming from allegations that he paid for sex with a teenage girl and sent another minor explicit content over Snapchat. As a result, Knatz was charged with multiple felony counts and two misdemeanor charges for his alleged criminal conduct.
The young girl shared that Knatz paid her to share sexually explicit photos through the app, and eventually paid her for sex. Similar to Knatz’s earlier incident, the girl told Knatz that she was a minor.

A 39-year-old man accused of human trafficking at a Warren motel rejected a plea deal to force a trial scheduled for later this month.
Aaron Kaycee-Lynardo Streety turned down a deal Monday in Macomb County Circuit Court to enter pleas to a charge of prostitution and pandering and two added human trafficking charges in exchange for dropping charges of unlawful imprisonment, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, felony firearm possession and conducting a human trafficking enterprise involving death, kidnapping or criminal sexual conduct.
He also would face a minimum term of 7-¼ years in prison and have to register as a sex offender under the nixed deal.

▫️Online Sting Operation Nets Predator Arrest at Brookville Truck Stop
BROOKVILLE, Pa. — A 50-year-old New York truck driver faces multiple felony charges following an undercover operation conducted by Brookville Borough Police and an online predator detection group.
According to court documents filed by the Brookville Borough Police Department, 50-year-old Joseph Matthew Falisi, of Liberty, New York, was arrested on January 2, 2025, at the Flying J truck stop in Brookville after allegedly attempting to meet who he believed to be a minor for a sexual encounter.
Police say Falisi had been communicating with who he thought was a 15-year-old girl through social media between December 28, 2024, and January 1, 2025. The account was actually operated by 814 Pred Hunters, a group that assists law enforcement by establishing decoy identities online, according to a criminal complaint. Falisi has been charged with multiple felonies including statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, and criminal use of a communication facility. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.

▫️Military doctor pleads guilty to dozens of sexual abuse charges
A military doctor has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing dozens of soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord who had primarily sought his care for pain management.
Maj. Michael Stockin, an anesthesiologist and pain management specialist at the base´s Madigan Army Medical Center, faced 52 charges involving claims of abusive sexual contact with 41 victims, said Michelle McCaskill, spokesperson with the U.S. Army Office of Special Trial Counsel.
Stockin pleaded guilty Tuesday to 36 specifications, or counts, of abusive sexual contact and five of indecent viewing, McCaskill said Wednesday. His pleas are subject to the military judge's approval, she said.
In January 2024, the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel referred 52 charges and specifications, stemming from allegations by 41 male patients he treated between 2019 and 2022.

A Long Island police officer accused of touching a young boy on two separate occasions has been charged with felony child sex abuse and related crimes.

▫️Trucker allegedly kidnaps Phoenix-area girl for sex, arrested in Utah
KANE COUNTY, UT An Arizona trucker is accused of kidnapping a Valley girl and taking her on the road before being busted by deputies in rural Utah.
Newly obtained court documents reveal that Liam Wallace is accused of taking a 12-year-old girl from her mother late last month.
The paperwork detailed that the girl’s mother reported her missing on Dec. 28 but believed she had been in contact with Wallace after previously running away from home and being returned to her house by Wallace himself.
The mother said that during the initial interaction with Wallace, he had introduced himself as the father of the girl’s “13-year-old boyfriend,” suggesting that the girl had been with his son and not himself.
Court papers say the girl later admitted to having sex with Wallace in Arizona and in Nevada and that, at one point, she had been picked up by her mom near the California-Nevada border. Wallace now faces a federal child sex trafficking charge. If convicted, he faces 10 years to life in prison.

▫️Seattle tutor arrested for alleged rape of a child, fired from nonprofit role

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man has been arrested and is being charged with Aggravated Kidnapping Sexual Abuse after police say he targeted a teenage girl on social media before meeting her in another Texas city, tying her up and sexually assaulting her.
Jamie Ray Rencher, 47, allegedly used social media to target the 17-year-old victim and facilitate an in-person meeting in Conroe, near Houston. When they met up, police say, Rencher destroyed her cell phone before proceeding to assault her. Rencher was charged with aggravated sexual assault in 2019 and assaulting a family member in 2021 and 2022.

▫️‘A large-scale investigation’: MNPD provides details on men charged with promoting prostitution
5 in custody after sex trafficking investigation in Antioch, TN
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A federal investigation into a possible brothel blocked a portion of Hobson Pike in Antioch Wednesday morning.
A large police presence was spotted in the 2300 block of Hobson Pike near Hamilton Church Road around 6 a.m. Metro police blocked a portion of traffic while agents with the Department of Homeland Security (HSI) searched a property with a large amount of vehicles. Tactical officers were seen breaking windows of multiple vehicles parked in the lot.
One of the five men was wanted by Metro police in connection with a September shooting at a suspected brothel on Mt. View Road. All five men were taken into custody. Authorities later identified the five men arrested as Gianfranco Augusto Barazarte-Morales, Felix Rafael-Ortega, Elmer Humberto Aparicio-Castillo, Idenis Alexander Sanchez-Paredes and Wilfredo Jose Mata-Fornerino.
The investigation is also linked to the deadly shooting of three men at a home on Bart Drive. No additional information was immediately released.

▫️Undercover Eaton County stings lead to arrests of accused predators
EATON COUNTY, Mich. - The Eaton County Sheriff’s Department is being kept busy by its undercover predator stings.
Last year, the department made about 55 arrests related to undercover predator stings. Two men were recently arrested and are now facing criminal charges. Prosecutors this week charged Mark Silberstein, an employee at an East Lansing synagogue and Lansing TV station, after investigators said he tried to meet up with an underaged child.
In September, the department arrested and charged Robert Herzing who, at the time, was a teacher at Waverly Community Schools.
Both men are facing charges of criminal sexual conduct and accosting a child for immoral purposes, with Herzing pleading not guilty.

The Attorney General’s Office announced that Edward Andersen, 49, of Essex Junction, Vermont, was arraigned yesterday on one felony count of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, one felony count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, and two felony counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials.
Mr. Andersen pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Vermont Superior Court, Chittenden Unit, Criminal Division. The Court, Judge David Fenster presiding, ordered Mr. Andersen be held without bail, pending a further hearing.
VT-ICAC investigates cases of child sexual exploitation occurring over the internet, including the production and online distribution of child sexual abuse materials.

▫️OpenAI boss Sam Altman denies sister´s allegations of sexual abuse
The sister of OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman has filed a lawsuit in the United States alleging that he regularly sexually abused her over a number of years, starting when they were children.
The lawsuit alleges that the abuse began when Ann Altman was three and Mr Altman was 12, and also includes an allegation of rape – with the filing alleging the last instance of abuse took place when Mr Altman was an adult but she was still a child.
In a joint statement posted to his account on X with his mother and two brothers, the OpenAI boss denied the allegations, calling them “utterly untrue”. Ms Altman has also previously made similar allegations against her brother on social media platforms.

▫️Arizona Pastor Charged with Voyeurism, After Camera Found in Church Bathroom
An influential Latino pastor in Arizona has been accused of hiding a camera in the women’s bathroom at his church and charged with felony voyeurism, according to Maricopa County Superior Court records.
Arturo Laguna Camas was arrested in Nov. 2024 and charged with four counts of unlawful recording, according to 12 News. He was later indicted on voyeurism charges, class 5 felonies, AZFamilyNews reported.
FOX 10 Phoenix reported that the camera fell out of a hand dryer while a woman was changing a baby’s diaper. When confronted by police, Camas reportedly confessed to installing the camera in October.
The camera’s SD card held four short videos of adult females using the bathroom and detectives obtained a screenshot showing Camas fixing the camera in the bathroom, the station reported.

▫️Chinese national headed to trial as part of human trafficking ring bust in Michigan
A 60-year-old Chinese national charged in connection with an international human trafficking ring that operated out of massage parlors in Macomb and Wayne counties will head to trial.
Huazi Piao was charged last month with one count of conducting a criminal enterprise, one count of conspiracy to commit a criminal enterprise, one count of accepting earnings from prostitution, one count of money laundering, and two counts of keeping a house of prostitution.
Piao was charged as part of an investigation into the trafficking ring that began in two parts during the summer of 2024 when St. Clair Shores police investigated a massage parlor and Michigan State Police assisted the Maumee Police Department in Ohio and uncovered illicit parlors in Southeast Michigan.
Between seven and nine women of Chinese and Korean nationalities were freed from the alleged operation, involving the parlors located in St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights and Detroit.

TYLER, Texas - A grand jury has indicted a Tyler man and woman on charges relating to sex trafficking of a child.
James Dews, 24, and Hannah Nicole Moore, 23, were arrested on Aug. 1, 2024, after texts on a minor’s phone reportedly tied the pair to a sex trafficking operation.

▫️Myrtle Creek police arrest two men accused of online sexual corruption of a child
Bleu Blaze Donahue, 23, of Eugene, drove to Myrtle Creek on December 29 to meet the girl and was arrested as he pulled into a local convenience store. Myrtle Creek police said he was charged with first- and second-degree online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor.
Myrtle Creek police said that on November 18 they also began looking into another man who was carrying on an online relationship with an underage girl. Police said the man, identified as Jacob Seth Canfield, 32, of Eugene, also agreed to meet the girl for sex, and even rented a motel room for two.
He was charged with first- and second-degree online sexual corruption of a child, police said.

A group that works to expose sexual predators online called police alleging Zuercher was in contact with an adult posing as a 14-year-old boy Sunday evening, police said. Zuercher allegedly asked the fictional boy if he wanted to meet, police said.
The group confronted Zuercher at his home before calling police. Police later obtained a warrant and arrested Zuercher at his home, police said.
