In November 2011 he went on trial for his alleged involvement in four bombings in the early 1980s that killed more than 10 people in France. Carlos was convicted the following month and given another life sentence. French authorities brought additional charges against Carlos in October 2014, in connection with the 1974 grenade attack in Paris. That trial concluded in March 2017, and Carlos received a third life sentence
