Before my son was born, I took a gander through the picture book section of the local B&N to see what was out there these days.
It wasn’t much of a surprise.
Even the few on display that were for boys specifically were pushing messages of defeat, gender confusion, and even “no means no” lessons for kids who can’t read yet.
It was so over the top I felt like I was being trolled on one of those hidden camera things.
One of the reasons for my first kids book, “You Are Your People,” was that I believe children should be taught to be confident and proud of where they come from - rather than force fed a constant message of racial guilt and cultural ruin.
